17 killed, 30 wounded in Pishin blast


QUETTA Aug 12 (TNS): At least 17 people were killed and 30 wounded in huge explosion which occurred near Pishin Bus Stop, Quetta as several vehicles also caught fire.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the blast scene. The window panes of nearby buildings were shattered.

The nature of the explosion could not be immediately ascertained; however, eyewitnesses said the explosion had occurred near a security forces vehicle.

Rescue teams have started shifting the injured to nearby hospitals while security forces, FC and police have cordoned off the area. Eyewitness said that several vehicles and nearby shops caught fire.

Three fire engines were busy to put out the flames engulfing several vehicles. Emergency has been imposed in all government hospitals.

Hospitals sources said that seriously injured were shifted to CMH, however they feared that death toll could climb.

Sources said that the security forces vehicle was target of the blast. It was also reported that explosive material was planted in a truck.

The blast site is said to be located in a high-security zone near the FC Headquarters. The Baluchistan Assembly, Quetta Law College, a private hospital and many offices are located near the vicinity where the explosion occurred.
