Weekly inflation drops slightly by 0.09%

The weekly inflation recorded a slight decrease of 0.09 per cent while the annual rate remained at 29.30 per cent.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) report, the prices of 23 essential items, including firewood, eggs, raw milk and flour increased, while that of several items such as vegetable ghee and cooking oil decreased.

The prices of 21 essential commodities remained stable during this period.
On a weekly basis, eggs became dearer by 2.86 per cent, basmati broken rice 28.1 per cent, flour 28.1 per cent, bread 2.76 per cent, firewood 2.49 per cent, LPG 1.61 per cent and energy savers 1.27 per cent.

On the other hand, tomatoes became cheaper by 6.02 per cent, potatoes 8.85 per cent, sugar 1.22 per cent, vegetable ghee 0.45 per cent, cooking oil 0.04 per cent and electricity 2.44 per cent.

The statistics show that last week, in terms of the decimal point of sensitive prices, the inflation rate for the group with income up to Rs17,732 per month on an annual basis was 27.80 per cent. For the group earning between Rs17,733 and Rs22,888, it was 28.24 per cent and for those earning between Rs22,899 and Rs29,517, it was 30.17 per cent.

The annual inflation rate was 31.35 per cent for those earning between Rs29,518 and Rs44,175 per month, and 29.61 per cent for those earning more than Rs44,176 per month.
