LAHORE, Aug 3 (TNS): Security forces have speeded up operations under Radddul Fasaad to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the country. At least three terrorists of a banned outfit were killed in encounter with Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel in Gujrat on Wednesday night.
According to details, Counter-Terrorism Department conducted an operation at the University Road on intelligence report during which the terrorists present in the area opened fire. The CTD personnel returned the fire due to which three terrorists were killed while three other managed to escape.
The CTD sources said that the dead terrorists belonged to a banned organization. The CTD personnel also recovered four detonators, explosive material and arms from dead terrorists.
Sources further said that the terrorists were planning to carry out terrorist attacks in Gujrat. In the past as well, several terrorists had been killed in Gujrat indicating that the Punjab city has safe havens of the outlaws.
In another operation CTD arrested three terrorists in Toba Tek Singh. .
Meanwhile security sources say that aiders and abetters of alleged terrorists as well as criminal gangs have sought refuge in cemeteries located in Kot Lakhpat, Gulbagh Begum, Naseerabad, Miani sahib and adjoining areas.
Police have recovered heavy ammunition from Miani Sahib graveyard, where five alleged terrorists were caught.
The police have conducted an operation which spans seven months and deduced that certain elements of banned religious organisations are operating in the area. A police official said that the Auqaf department has the jurisdiction to engage in clearing the area.
On intelligence report that terrorists were planning some terror acts, at least 13 suspects were taken into custody during police search operation in different parts of Lahore on Wednesday night.
According to details, the search operation was carried out in Sabzi Mandi area of Ravi Road and Gulshan-e-Iqbal
Police searched hotels, hostels and also carried house-to-house search in these localities. Biometric device was used for the identification of the residents and 13 persons were taken into custody who failed to produce any identity document.
