He graduated from Farman Christian College Lahore in 1970. He was a Zamindar who was a Member/Opposition Leader in District Council Khanewal during 1987-90. He first became a Member Provincial in 1985. He was elected to the Punjab Assembly and performed his duties as the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Information and S&GAD. He was elected as a member of the Punjab Assembly for the second time in 2002. He has traveled to USA, Dubai, Bangkok and Saudi Arabia. He belongs to a well-known political family. Ghulam Qadir Khan (Khan Bahadur) was a member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly during 1937-45. Another of his uncles, Colonel (Retd.) Muhammad Aslam Khan, was a member of the Punjab Provincial Assembly in 1972-77 and 1977. His wife Ms. Zakia Shahnawaz 1977 and 1985. During 1988-88, she was a member of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab and is currently performing her duties as the Minister of Social Welfare. Her brother Abdul Rehman Khan was a member of the Punjab Assembly from 1993-96 and was also the Minister of Jails as well as an advisor to the Chief Minister. His other brother Abdul Hafeez Khan Niazi was a member of the Punjab Assembly during 2008-13 and served as the Parliamentary Secretary for Zakat, Usher and Baitul Mal. His cousin Maqbool Ahmad Khan was a member of the National Assembly during 1985-88 and as a minister Religious and minority affairs continued to perform their duties. His eldest son was also the adviser of the Chief Minister of Punjab.
