Islamabad(TNS):Ethiopia and Pakistan Unite Against Terrorism: Diplomatic Talks Foster Stronger Collaboration

Islamabad 13 December 2023: His Excellency Jemal Beker Abdula, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, engaged in fruitful discussions with Caretaker Interior Minister His Excellency Sarfraz Bugti during a meeting at the minister’s office.

The high-level talks focused on strengthening collaboration between Ethiopia and Pakistan in various crucial domains, including security, counter-terrorism, and immigration at bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels. Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula underscored the structural similarities between the two nations and highlighted the shared challenges faced by Ethiopia and Pakistan.

Emphasizing the need for knowledge and experience exchange, Ambassador Abdula proposed joint efforts to counter terrorism, illicit trade, and smuggling. He elaborated on Ethiopia’s ongoing counter-terrorism activities in the Horn of Africa, expressing eagerness for collaborative initiatives with Pakistan in fostering peace and stability.

Furthermore, Ambassador Abdula provided an overview of Ethiopia’s economic progress under the leadership of His Excellency Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia. Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti acknowledged Ethiopia’s economic prosperity through transformative reforms and affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing connections with the African continent, with Ethiopia playing a pivotal role.

Minister Bugti conveyed Pakistan’s readiness to share knowledge and experiences, particularly in the realm of counter-terrorism, underlining the significant role that Ethiopia plays in promoting global peace and security.

The discussions concluded with both sides expressing optimism for strengthened ties and collaborative efforts between Ethiopia and Pakistan, contributing to mutual prosperity and regional stability.
