Islamabad(TNS): Cultural Fusion and Sustainability Shine at EuroVillage’s Resounding Celebration in Islamabad

Islamabad – 18 February 2024 : EuroVillage, a collaborative effort by the diplomatic missions of the European Union and 15 member states, including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, and more, marked its fifth edition with a resounding celebration at the Jinnah Convention Center Islamabad. Under the theme “Stronger Together – Sustainable Forever,” the event highlighted over 60 years of enduring connections between the EU and Pakistan.

Ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan, Dr. Riina Kionka, emphasized the significance of EuroVillage as a platform fostering people-to-people connections. She shared, “EuroVillage is a special event for us; we cherish the people-to-people connections it offers. This year, we want you to experience our journey of co-creating a sustainable future.”

This year’s focus on sustainability reflects the joint commitment to addressing climate challenges. Dr. Kionka noted Europe’s ambition to be the first climate-neutral continent and highlighted the EU’s collaboration with Pakistan to support the country’s green transition. “Pakistan is one of the countries at the greatest risk from climate change. The EU is working with Pakistan to help address challenges and create a sustainable future for all,” she added.

The festival attracted thousands of attendees from Islamabad and Rawalpindi who enjoyed an immersive experience of European sustainability. The Jinnah Convention Center came alive with interactive displays, games, quizzes, food stalls, and various activities presented by the EU and Member States. The event showcased the multifaceted partnership between the EU and Pakistan, spanning development, trade, investment, culture, education, and environmental initiatives.

Highlighting the vibrant cultural exchange, EuroVillage featured live performances by renowned Pakistani artists, including Farhan Saeed and Quratulain Balouch. As a symbol of the enduring partnership, an EU-Pakistan Dosti truck adorned with a fusion of Pakistani truck art and European symbols captivated attendees.

EuroVillage continues to be a cornerstone event, fostering understanding, collaboration, and cultural exchange between the EU and Pakistan. The festival serves as a testament to the shared commitment to a sustainable future, echoing the theme “Stronger Together – Sustainable Forever.”
