ISLAMABAD (TNS); The Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Defense says that Pakistan’s missile system is a pillar of national sovereignty. The fourth meeting of the Standing Committee on Defense of the National Assembly was held at the Parliament House, Islamabad under the chairmanship of MNA Fatehullah Khan, in which the committee commended the armed forces for keeping the missile system in foolproof custody and affirmed that this step is an important guarantee of the country’s sovereignty. The Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Defense emphasized that Pakistan is a peace-loving sovereign country that fully abides by all international protocols and agreements related to the command and control system of missiles.
The Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Defense also considered the “Pakistan Navy (Amendment) Bill, 2024.” During the discussion, the ministry briefed the committee members about the salient features of the proposed bill, which mainly focuses on welfare activities, electronic crimes, and updating the procedures.
The ministry also explained that these amendments are designed to align the Navy Act with the recently amended Act governing the Pakistan Army and Air Force, thus ensuring consistency across the various branches of the armed forces. After thorough deliberations, the committee unanimously recommended that the National Assembly pass the bill. Thereafter, the committee was given an in-camera briefing by the ministry on the functioning of the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PSMA) and the Military Lands and Cantonment Department (MLC). The meeting was attended by MNAs. Aqeel Malik, Abrar Ahmed, Ms. Saba Sadiq, Asfapanyar M. Bandara, Ms. Sharmila Farooqui, Sanjay Parwani, Gul Asghar Khan, Mr. Plein, Arbab Aamir Ayub, Muhammad Aslam Ghuman, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, and Ms. Zeb Jaffer MPs besides Lt. Gen. (retd) Muhammad Ali, HI(M), Secretary (Defense), Major General Amir Ashfaq Kayani, Additional Secretary (Army), Rear Admiral Amir Mahmood, Additional Secretary attended the meeting.
