CTD foiled major possible terror bid in Karachi: say officials

Karachi, August 7 (TNS): The Counter-Terrorism Department on Monday claimed to kill three suspected suicide bombers last night encounter in Machar Colony.

Talking to journalists, DIG Counter-Terrorism Department, Amir Farooqui and SSP Omar Shahid Hamid said the department conducted operation in three different areas in Karachi during which three suspected suicide bombers were killed and four other terrorists were arrested.

They said that the department had foiled a major possible terror bid as the terrorists were planning to target the largest metropolis of the country.

Amir Farooqui said India’s spy agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Afghanistan’s intelligence agency NDS have been involved in terror activities in Karachi.

The officials, however, said that the deceased terrorists have not yet been identified.

Thy added that forces have recovered arms and explosive including Kalashnikov, pistols, and a home-made bomb in possession of the deceased terrorists.

DIG CTD also claimed that two sleeper cells were also unearthed during the overnight operation in Karachi.
