KARACHI (TNS) Karachi The Karachi Sub Soil Water Association President, Shakeel Mehr, along with General Secretary Ajmal Afridi and other office-bearers, held a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, stating that the Association is a licensed and Karachi Water Corporation-approved body, operating under a legal framework by providing water supply through meters and paying bills and taxes regularly. Despite this, members of the Association are being harassed, and obstacles are being created in the repair and maintenance of borings. The leaders condemned certain malicious elements who are spreading false propaganda through social media for personal interests, attempting character assassination and resorting to blackmail, which is unjust and unacceptable. They clarified that water is being supplied to industries strictly in accordance with the law through approved subsoil water lines, and the Association has no involvement in any illegal practices, while the Water Corporation’s Anti-Theft Cell continuously monitors and takes action whenever necessary. Shakeel Mehr expressed gratitude to Karachi Mayor and Chairman Water Corporation Murtaza Wahab and MD Ahmed Ali Siddiqui for regularizing and providing legal licenses to the Association, under which free subsoil water is also being provided to several mosques including Haroonabad, Jehangirabad, and Lasbela. The Association strongly demanded immediate action against those blackmailers who are maligning their work on social media and appealed for complete legal protection to ensure uninterrupted supply of subsoil water for the citizens.
