Islamabad (TNS) 588 professional beggars arrested in Islamabad this year
Following the special directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, the Islamabad Police has been carrying out vigorous operations against professional beggars and their handlers.Under these directives, legal action is being taken against professional beggars who create inconvenience for citizens at highways, intersections, traffic signals, and marketplaces.Meanwhile, facilitators and contractors who provide transportation and logistical support to these beggars are being identified through the assistance of Safe City Islamabad cameras and human intelligence. Moreover, police teams have arrested 588 professional beggars during the ongoing year and registered cases against them under the relevant law. In addition, legal action is also being taken against parents who hand over their children to criminal elements under the pretext of begging.It has further been revealed that several criminal elements disguised as beggars were found involved in street crimes in different areas of the city. Clear instructions have been issued to all police officers to further accelerate and strengthen the ongoing crackdown against professional beggars.Islamabad Police has urged citizens to discourage professional begging and to cooperate with the police by reporting any such activity immediately to the Police emergency helpline “Pucar-15.” The protection of citizens and maintaining public order remain the top priorities of Islamabad Police.
