New York Aug. 15 (TNS): The United Nations General Assembly hall echoed with “Long Live Pakistan” slogans during the concert organized by Pakistan Mission last night to mark the 70th Independence Day of Pakistan.
The audience lauded the magnificent performance of Sachal Jazz Band immensely. Expressing pleasure at the international solidarity that the concert fostered Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN Dr Maleeha Lodhi said that the participants enjoyed the Pakistani music greatly.
The instrumental rendition of the national song also mesmerized the audience that included UN Deputy secretary General Amna Muhammad, ambassadors and diplomats from many countries and their families.
Speaking on the occasion UN Deputy Secretary General Amna Muhammad said that Pakistan is waging the war against those who have hijacked the name of Islam. The UN appreciates and lauds the extraordinary measures that Pakistan has taken with respect to matters related to the world body and it also lauds the services rendered by the Pak army in its war against terrorism.
In her address Maliha Lodhi said that Pakistan has been a member of the UN for 70 years but it is the first time that a global unity has been seen at diplomatic level. The trading and exchange of cultures would help enhance mutual respect and harmony among nations, she added.
Earlier when Sachal Jazz Band, which is a blend of the traditional and the modern music, started its performance the hall of the UN General Assembly echoed with “Long Live Pakistan” slogans. The magnificent performance drew immense praise from the audience.
The ‘Music Beyond Borders’ concert organized by Pakistan Mission at the UN to mark the 70th Independence Day of the country was attended by diplomats of 50 countries including China, Afghanistan, Russia, and Bangladesh and representatives of 100 nations.
