LHC disposes of PAT petition seeking ban on Nawaz to chair party meetings

LAHORE, Aug 16 (TNS): Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday disposed of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) petition seeking court directive to restrain Nawaz Sharif from presiding over party meetings.

A division bench of LHC headed by Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah heard the petition filed by PAT leader Khurram Nawaz Gandapur.

Director Law of Election Commission of Pakistan Umer Hayat appeared before the court.

He apprised the court that the ECP was taking action over the issue. He further said that the Commission had already set date for hearing of applications filed by PAT and PTI over the issue. He told the court the Commission would hear the applications in August.

Following the ECP’s response, the court disposed of the petition of Gandapur.

Gandapur in his petition submitted that after disqualification from Supreme Court Nawaz can not head party as per Political Parties Order 2002.

He pleaded the court to restrain Nawaz from hearing party and its meetings.
