LAHORE Aug. 18, (TNS): Lahore High Court has reserved judgment over maintainability of contempt of court proceedings against ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

Presenting his arguments before Justice Mamoon Rasheed  petitioner Shahid Rana said that the kind of statements that Nawaz Sharif has given after being declared disqualified by the Supreme Court tantamount to contempt of court. He pleaded the court that contempt of court proceedings should be initiated against the ousted prime minister.

The court asked the petitioner that since the issue pertains to Supreme Court how could petition could be maintainable.

The government’s lawyer argued before Justice Mamoon Rasheed that the petition is not maintainable because contempt of court petition could not be filed directly.

It may be mentioned here that on the last hearing the court had directed the parties to give their arguments whether or not the petition is maintainable.
