MUZAFFAR NAGAR.20 Aug (TNS): 14 coaches of an express train derailed in north India on Saturday, killing 23 passengers and injuring 64 others.
Loss of life is being apprehended likely to be increased as rescuers battle to free people trapped in the wreckage was on when the last reports came in.
“Twenty-three people have died and 64 others are injured in the accident. Rescue and relief operations are continuing,” G S Priyadarshi, a top civil official at the accident site told reporters.
Emergency workers were pulling people out of mangled, upended carriages after 14 coaches derailed near Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh state, some 130 kilometers from New Delhi.
