Trump’s new narrative on Afghanistan is not realistic

LAHORE Aug. 22 (TNS): While reviewing current geopolitical developments, it can be overtly stated that US policy in Afghanistan has been a sheer failure.

Many within US media believe that Ghani’s corruption-hindered democratic government remains limited to Kabul only whereas Taliban rule rest of the Afghanistan as insurgency regains momentum amid absence of a pragmatic policy from Western powers.

Ghani’s failure mainly stems from segregated tribal structure of Afghan forces. In the absence of a central command, Afghan National Army has suffered major setbacks in country’s modern history against well-organized Taliban’s offence.

The second major cause behind operational inabilities of Afghan forces erupts from fragile training of Afghan’s NDS by India’s RAW. India has played vital role in erecting Afghan spy-agency NDS and therefore, Afghan officials look towards India for brokering any peace deal or countering insurgents while turning a blind eye towards New Delhi’s role in harboring terrorists on their soil.

It remains an open secret that major terror attacks in Pakistan have been crafted, controlled and carried out from Afghanistan as banned TTP enjoys ‘safe havens’ there despite presence of well-equipped US and NATO forces. Pakistan’s top civilian and military brass had paid multiple visits to Kabul with undeniable evidence but Ghani paid no heed.

Meanwhile, Washington’s failures in Afghanistan cleared path for resurrecting Russian and ambitious China to step in as both played more active role in Afghan affairs. The participation of Afghan Taliban in Moscow’s peace process highlighted growing Russia’s influence though US tried to impede dialogue with a boycott.

Sources privy to development state that then US desires a strong role for Pakistan in Kabul’s affairs but at its own terms. Historically, Pakistan has always remained target of international powers under guise of obliterating terrorists or overthrowing governments in Afghanistan.
