ISLAMABAD, Aug 23 (TNS): Fire erupted at the garments’ section of ‘Sasta Bazaar’ in Islamabad’s sector H-9, on Wednesday morning burning down 600 stalls.
The site, situated near Peshawar Mor, is frequented by scores of residents as it hosts the weekly market.
Rescue officials said at least 10 clothing stalls were submerged by the fire, adding that five fire tenders are on site to douse the inferno. Sources said at least two more ‘main bowsers’ are on their way.
Rescue officials said they hope to contain the fire shortly as they were able to reach the shops engulfed by flames owing to the well-planned structure of the market.
Officials believe the fire spread after locals lit up garbage in order to dispose it off.
The latest reports said that the engulfing fire has finally been extinguished.
