KABUL, Aug 23 (TNS): At least five people were killed while 42 other were injured including children, women, and soldiers on Wednesday, when the suicide bomber detonated a car filled with explosives at a police headquarters in Lashkargah, Helmand at southern Afghanistan.

As per initial details, the explosive-filled car was driven by a suicide attacker who hit a crowd of policemen and soldiers gathered to collect their salaries in Lashkar Gah, capital city of Helmand province.

In blast, two women and two soldiers including a child succumbed to injuries. Around 42 persons have been shifted to hospital for medical treatment and some of them are reportedly in critical condition

The Taliban has claimed responsibility of the attack in a text message sent to journalists.

The blast occurred soon after US President Donald Trump ruled out withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, besides clearing way for deployment of more troops in the war-torn country

A number of military vehicles that were approaching the police headquarters at the time sustained extensive damage, it was reported.

In June, militants carrying out a same kind of strategy attacked security forces gathered to collect their pay at a bank in Lashkar Gah.
