ISLAMABAD, Aug. 26 (TNS): Prof. Dr. Shaharyar, Chairperson, Cancer Care Hospital and Research Centre, Lahore has visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry along with his team and addressing the business community said that they were building a 400 bed modern cancer hospital in Lahore at an area of 27 acre of land that would provide free of cost treatment to the cancer patients and no patient will be refused.
He said that cancer disease was on the rise in Pakistan but due to lack of its treatment facilities hospitals, only 20% patients were able to get cancer treatment while the 80% were deprived of this facility. He said only in Punjab, 185640 cancer cases were reported in 2016 while Shaukat Khanum has the capacity to treat only 10500 cancer patients per annum. He said due to lack of required cancer hospitals, 154390 cancer patients were dying annually.
He said every year 85000 women were becoming patient of breast cancer while daily 423 cancer patients were dying in Punjab. He said keeping in view this deplorable state of affairs, they have decided to build a cancer hospital to provide free treatment and said that they needed the cooperation of business community and the general public to complete this project.
Speaking at the occasion, Khalid Iqbal Malik, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry lauded the initiative of Prof. Dr. Shahryar and his team for building a cancer hospital in Lahore which was a great noble cause. He said cancer was spreading in Pakistan rapidly and urged the government should build at least one cancer hospital in every province of Pakistan so that the patients could avail treatment in their respective provinces. He assured that ICCI would extend all possible cooperation to this important project.
Khalid Malik, Senior Vice President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry also paid tributes to the services of Prof. Dr. Shahryar for the nation and said that Chamber would play role with business community to provide maximum cooperation to this noble cause.
