PFA’s performance even better than previous year

LAHORE, Aug 27 (TNS):  Punjab Food Authority (PFA) is trying efficiently and successfully to ensure a hygienic food regime across the province.

Under the provision of Section 15 of PFA Act 2011, every food operator is required to obtain a license to run a food business. It is also mandatory for food handlers to get fitness certifications after going through medical tests required to detect contagious diseases from government hospitals for issuance of licenses.The departmental report about its performance during the current year is reflective of the fact that the department is very much up to the task.

According to the report the number of inspections to check hygiene and ensure the quality of food has been recorded 450% higher as compared to the 20 thousand such operations conducted in 10 months of last year.

During the operation against adulteration mafia, PFA authorities, acting on the tip of vigilance cell, have conducted 463 successful raids.

Nearly 300 food and beverage factories beside small mills have been uprooted and the materials seized during the raids. The report said

The authority submitted cases against 269 people and arrested 69 for being involved in adulteration of severe nature. Beside, to check the adulteration, 2600 samples of different food items were taken and sent to laboratories for testing.
