Karachi, Sept 05 (TNS): Amid growing concerns about young individuals’ involvement in militancy and terrorism, the authorities of Karachi University (KU) have deiced to share the record of students with intelligence agencies.
According to local media reports, an emergency meeting of KU’s Academic Council held on Tuesday with Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan in chair.
The meeting, which also attended by teachers, deans and the council members, reviewed security matters of the varsity in the light of growing concerns that some young individuals, specially former students, have been found involved in incidents of militancy and terrorism.
Reports said the meeting has decided to share the record of students with intelligence agencies in order to ensure the arrest of criminals and terrorists.
The decision would be approved be next meeting of academic council.
Today’s meeting also reviewed a proposal about police character certificate for students.
The university spokesman says all decisions will be taken in consultation with law-enforcing agencies.
Meanwhile, a similar meeting regarding security issued also held in NED University. It was presided over Vice Chancellor Sarosh Lodhi.
The meeting, also attended by security incharges and hostel wardens, reviewed security arrangements of the institution, especially at the entry and exit points.
The authorities decided to enhance the number of CCTV cameras.
