Another feat of Shehbaz Sharif: Punjab government initiative to improve police culture through IT being followed by other provinces

LAHORE Sept 8 (TNS): In Pakistan usually people complain that police do not register their application or FIR without any bribery or reference at police stations.  Punjab government has taken great steps to improve the police station culture using the modern Information technology (IT).

In order to facilitate the applicants at the Police Stations, Front Desks/Reception Rooms have been established throughout Punjab. These Reception Rooms are being run by civilian female and male officials of the I.T. branch.

In order to entertain the complaints of the visitors Complaint Management System (CMS) software has been installed and the complainants are issued an E-Tag after receiving their applications. Once the application is entered into the system its follow up is monitored by Senior Supervisory Officers and Provincial Monitoring Room located in the Central Police Office, Lahore till the matter reaches its logical conclusion. If required the application is also typed for the applicant in the Reception Rooms.

Police Station Record Management System (PSRMS) has been installed in all Police Stations of Punjab. Presently all FIRs are being entered in the system and corresponding entries into different registers are done electronically by the system itself. The supervisory officers can see status of a specific case and also obtain other information like recovery, witnesses, sureties, case diaries, name of victims, name of accused, name of witnesses, challan date, next date of hearing, gender of victims etc.

Twenty six registers of the police station have been computerized and maintained. FIRS are registered computerized so that no one can make any changes in the records. This computerized system has been applied in 713 police stations throughout Punjab where 1194000 complaints and 887000 FIR have been registered so far. In this system people who go to police station with any complaint to register an FIR they have given a tracking ID so they can check with the progress of their application.

This advance system in police station culture has helped to make the system transparent, saved time of the citizens and most importantly has been very helpful in eradicating corruption.

This system has been successful to that extent that like Punjab other provinces are also replicating the Punjab system to improve their police culture. Recently Punjab Information Technology Board has shared the same system with Sindh police and the system has been introduced in most of the police stations of Sindh.
