KARACHI Sept 11 (TNS): Education sector may provide guarantee for national development of a country only, keeping in view of this objective, Higher Education Commission (HEC) will establish a university campus in each district of Pakistan in order to promote higher education which ratio is less than five percent presently.
This was stated by HEC head Dr Javaid Memon while addressing as chief guest to an open house session of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, (MAJU) Karachi held here at the start of new semester from Monday.
President, MAJU Prof. Dr. Zubair Shaikh, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof. Dr. Kamran Azim, Associate Dean, Computer & Engineering Dr. Asim Imdad, Associate Dean, Business Administration & Social sciences Dr. Shujaat Mubarak and Director Student Affairs, Ahmer Umer also addressed to the open house session.
Heads of departments, faculty members, a large number of newly admitted students and their parents attended the open house session.
Javaid Memon said that M.A.Jinnah university, Karachi’s contribution towards promoting higher education is very much appreciable because this university have highly respectable educationists and experts like Prof. Dr. Zubair Shaikh and Prof. Dr. Kamran Azim.
He said that 15 years back when HEC was established, 4 lac students were studying in 50 universities at that time in all over the country, but now in 2017 over 12 lac students are under study in 80 universities presently. Besides, around 10 lac students are also completing their education in other affiliated educational institutions, he added. He said that America achieved its targets of development by promoting Knowledge base economy only; therefore, it is also very necessary for us to encourage knowledge base economy here.
Addressing to the session, President, MAJU Prof. Dr. Zubair Shaikh asked the students love to the country should be their first preference above all. He also advised to them that on completion of their education here to work for their own nation and country rather than to go abroad to serve the others. He said that at MAJU we are focusing to adopt modern way of teaching and to get full advantage of new technologies.
He said that we are concentrating to establish Robotic, Forensic, Engineering, computing and other scientific labs here. He told that in order to promote computer & engineering education, we have already acquired PEARN connectivity, to link MAJU with research data base journals and top class world universities. He further told that now we are going to link the university with 155 MIBT internet system of HEC, after this connectivity, MAJU will be the second university of the city for having this significant facility.
Dr. Zubair informed that after launching Computer & engineering and Biosciences degree programs this year, we will also introduce MS (Biotechnology), MS (Bioinformatics) and Pharmacy educational programs from next year. He further informed that we are also planning to start Social Sciences education in our Business Administration Faculty.
He said that in order to guide our students to start their own business after getting their degree, we have already started to provide business incubator facility to students for establishing their own office at MAJU campus with all required facilities for six months.
