KARACHI, Sep 11 (TNS): Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Monday said that terrorists are trying to lure the country’s youth through the use of social media.
The interior minister was speaking to media at Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi after paying tribute to Quaid-e-Azam on his death anniversary.
“It took four years to eradicate hatred from the country,” said Iqbal.
He said that a policy has been constituted with the help of Higher Education Commission to stem extremism in educational institutes. He said a youth convention would be held in Islamabad to devise a strategy to counter negative thinking in the educational institutions.
He asked the federal and provincial governments to guard the gains against terrorism so that the successes are not undone.
He said time has come to take Pakistan forward as visualized by Quaid e Azam. He said it would not have been possible easily to achieve an independent Pakistan had there not been leadership of Quaid- e- Azam.
He said the blue prints given by Quaid e Azam in his speech are torch bearer for us. He said literary and cultural activities are being revived and we have to make Pakistan Asian Tiger by 2025 with positive thinking.
He said the country is facing major external dangers and internal security was essential to counter them. He said the federal government in cooperation with the provinces was implementing the national action plan effectively.
He referred to the achievements of the PML-N government in the last four years and pointed out that in 2013 there had been load shedding of 20 hours daily and incidents of terrorism were happening every day. He said the situation is much better today which is recognized by the world.
Taking a jibe at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan, Iqbal said this political leader does not admit any improvement in the situation. He said the visit of the World XI team is welcomed in Pakistan and pointed out that top international players are part of it. . He was indirectly referring to Khan’s earlier criticism of some foreign players who played in the Pakistan Super League earlier this year.
The Interior Minister said the success of the country lies in supremacy of constitution and democracy. He invited the opposition to join government for giving final shape to laws to ensure free and transparent elections.
To a question, Ahsan Iqbal said there has been no change in China’s policy and said the Pakistani media did not give proper attention to the BRICS declaration. He said China gives special importance to the role of Pakistan in the region.
To another question, the Interior Minister said investigations are going on about Ansarul Sharif Group and vowed to eliminate those creating lawlessness and violence in the country.
In reply to a question, he said Nawaz Sharif is in London to visit his ailing wife and not undertake any political activity.
