Turkish President reiterates support for Pakistan

Ankara, Sept 12 (TNS): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reiterated his country’s unflinching commitment to broaden and expand brotherly relations between with Pakistan.

He was talking to Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif who called on him in Ankara on Tuesday, as part of his regional tour to garner support for Pakistan in the backdrop of US President Donald Trump’s new strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia.

The Foreign Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong desire for further strengthening strategic partnership between the two countries.

Both sides agreed that Pakistan and Turkey would continue to work together for peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif met Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim in Ankara.

The two leaders discussed matters relating with the regional situation and issues of mutual interest.

Asif is also held bilateral meeting with his Turkish counterpart.

The two sides mulled upon regional issues including Afghanistan’s situation, human rights violations in held Kashmir and atrocities against Rohingya Muslims.

Earlier, upon arrival, the minister was received by Pakistan Ambassador to Turkey Syrus Qazi and Turkish officials.

On Monday, Asif visited Iran to further his campaign to gather support for the country in times of the changing regional situation.

The foreign minister visited China last Friday and managed to win crucial support from Beijing, which urged the world to recognise Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.

China also threw its weight behind Pakistan’s stance that solution to the 16-year-long conflict in Afghanistan is not possible through the use of force. Both countries have called for pursuing the political option for achieving peace in the war-ravaged country.
