NA discusses Basic Human Rights issues

Islamabad, Sept 13 (TNS): The National Assembly has been informed that the government is pursuing a vigorous campaign to create awareness on Basic Human Rights.

Replying to a question, Minister for Human Rights Mumtaz Ahmed Tarar said the campaign’s major activities include seminars and advertisements in print and electronic media.

He said target of the campaign is general public, civil society, researchers, academia, students, government functionaries and different segments of society.

The Minister said that a toll -free helpline numbers, 1099 has been launched at Islamabad for Legal advice and assistance.

Responding to another question, Minister of State for Communication Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said that E-Ticketing System will be started on all Motorways and Highways during the current financial year.

The System will ensure quick access to authentic and precise information.

Answering a question, Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid said that the National Accountability Bureau is not indiscriminately raiding any institutions for control of corruption. He said if any raid has to be conducted is to be based on sound information.

Parliamentary Secretary for Power Azhar Qayyum Nahra told the House that load-shedding has been reduced to four hours in urban areas and five hours in rural areas.

He said zero load shedding is being observed in the industrial sector.

Speaking on a point of order, the Chairperson of Benazir Income Support Programme Marvi Memon said that the government has increased Benazir Income Support Programme budget from seventy billion rupees to 120 billion rupees.

She said that fresh survey of BISP is underway and sophisticated technology is being utilized for the programme.

Marvi Memon  pointed out that  a desk base pilot project has been started to collect data in four selected districts of the country, including  Harripur, Sukkur, Nasirabad and Bahawalpur, where 7,11,000 households have been counted in the survey.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmed introduced “The Service Tribunals (Amendment) Bill, 2017” in the House.

The house passed “The National Commission on the Rights of the Child Bill, 2017.” The Bill was moved by Minister for Human Rights Mumtaz Ahmed Tarar.

The House was adjourned to meet again tomorrow at 10.30 in the morning.
