LAHORE, Sep 15 (TNS): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Friday that for the first time justice has been delivered.

He was referring to the dismissal of the review petitions filed by the Sharif family and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar against the Supreme Court’s Panama Papers case verdict.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, Imran said Nawaz Sharif tried his best to pressurise the Supreme Court with ‘gimmicks’ such as the former prime minister’s ‘GT Road Rally’ after his disqualification.

The PTI chief claimed Nawaz just wanted to remove the Supreme Court’s monitoring judge [who will oversee corruption cases against the Sharifs and Dar in the accountability court] so “their own institutions could delay proceedings for years”.

“These people have used government institutions to protect them and harass others. You need controlled institutions to preserve corruption,” he remarked.

Talking about the bailable warrants issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against him, Imran said, “I ask the ECP, are you a court of law? Have you ever summoned anyone for contempt?”

He lashed out at the ECP over its ‘jurisdiction’, saying ECP is Asif Zardari and Nawaz’s ECP. “They are not neutral umpires,” he said, adding that they will take this matter to the Supreme Court.

“ECP is a weapon of the mafia. I ask them, why you are harassing us for the past several months only when you had all our party’s details for years,” he argued.

In response to a question, he lashed out at the appointment process of the National Accountability Bureau chairman, saying the prime minister and opposition leader, who jointly appoint the NAB chief, are themselves corrupt.

He said the NAB chairman, as well as the ECP chairman and members, should be appointed by the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile Election Commission of Pakistan on Friday issued bailable arrest warrant of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan.

ECP’s Additional Director General Law has sent the directives to Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Operations. ECP has ordered SSP Operations to arrest Imran Khan and present him before the commission on September 25.
