KARACHI Sep 19 (TNS): Karachi Water and Sewerage Board’s 217 employees have been absenting from duty including officers of grade 17, 18 and 19 as sources say that they were ghost employees and drawing salary from the national exchequer.

According to reports, these employees also include MQM-London leader Shakeel Ahmed Umer, who is a grade 18 officer. While a MQM-London member Qasim Ali Raza, who is a grade 17 officer, also remains absent.

In a city plagued with sewerage and water scarcity issues, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board’s employees enjoy holidays and remain absent from duty.

This shocking news comes weeks after Karachi remained inundated during torrential rains in the city which claimed many lives. During Eid-ul-Adha, Karachi sewers overflowed due to rain and animal waste.

Interestingly, Water board claims to have physical verification proofs of these employees which is leading them to retain them for jobs and they are not employing anyone else in their place. In the end, Karachiites are bearing the brunt of this incompetency and corruption.
