Ahsan Iqbal directs NACTA to keep an eye on social media

Islamabad, Oct 2 (TNS): Minister for Interior, Prof Ahsan Iqbal on Monday said National Counter Terrorism Authority’s cyber wing to keep an eye on social media to stop anarchy in the country.

The minister, who was chairing NACTA meeting here, urged the anti-terrorism authority to play a vital role in the fight against terrorism especially on social media.

Ahsan Iqbal said extremists are using social media as a tool to promote their propaganda urging NACTA to keep an eye on activities on social media.

False news and propaganda on social media can play the role of spreading anarchy in the country, he added.

The minister said PNL-N government would take practical steps to make NACTA further effective.

He directed that NACTA should prepare a coordinated strategy in collaboration with all provinces and institutions.

Ahsan said an effective narrative was needed to save the young generation from extremism, adding further research should be carried out on extremist ideas to get rid of the tendencies of terrorism.
He said, “We have to make Pakistan a peaceful place
for our future generation. Our mission is to win the fight against
terrorism and establish peace.”

The minister said eradication of terrorism was indispensable
for progress of the economy.
The meeting was attended by NACTA officials, including National Coordinator Ehsan Ghani.

‘It is inevitable to activate and strengthen the authority against terrorism’ the minister said adding that NACTA should set up integrated strategies in order to effectively fight against extremism.
