LAHORE OCT 3 (TNS): A robber was shot dead while his three accomplices managed to escape after a shootout between them and the personnel of Punjab police, said an official of the police on Tuesday.
The official said that four robbers tried to flee after snatching a motorbike from a citizen near Manga Mandi area of the provincial capital. When the police personnel challenged them to surrender, they opened fire at the personnel and in the retaliatory fire, one of them was killed while three others managed to flee from the spot, he added.
The police personnel recovered a snatched motorbike from the possession of the killed robber who was later shifted to a morgue.
Earlier on Oct 1, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) had claimed to have gunned down five ‘suspected terrorists’ in a fierce shootout near Sagian Bridge here.
Acting swiftly on an intelligence tip-off about presence of the suspects, the CTD personnel raided a house in a locality within jurisdiction of Dera Saeen police station near River Ravi of Lahore.
Sensing the arrival, the suspects opened fire on the CTD personnel. The raiding team retaliated and after exchange of heavy fire, five suspects were killed and three others managed to flee from the spot after taking advantage of darkness, official sources said.
Sharing the details of the slain terrorists, the anti-terrorism department said the suspects were affiliated with the proscribed outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
