KARACHI Oct 11 (TNS): Advisor to CM Sindh for Social Welfare Shamim Mumtaz termed attacks on women in Gulistan-e-Johar a conspiracy to disturb the peace of city.
She was responding to media queries here at local hotel on the occasion of two days training workshop on “Child Rights and Protection Mechanism” for officials of Child Protection Units and Police focal persons on child issues organized by Social Welfare Department in collaboration with SPARC.
She said that Police, Rangers and other Law enforcement agencies have restored the lights of Karachi; however miscreants were trying to spoil it. She added that PPP leadership and Chief Minister Sindh has taken notice of incidents and directed Inspector General of Police to apprehend miscreant involved the in spoiling peaceful atmosphere of the city.
Earlier addressing the workshop, she said that on the directive of PPP leadership Child Protection Mechanism is being strengthened to provide favorable environment to our children to flourish. She said that coordination between Police, Sindh Child Protection Authority and non-government organization working on child issues is being strengthened.
She said that it is high time to implement laws regarding child rights in true spirit. She opined that hundreds of children were living in open sky on roads sides and were vulnerable to sexual exploitation drug trafficking emotional and psychological abuses.
She said that we don’t have authentic data of street children. She said that each one of us have to take responsibility to save our children and asked participant of training to take this opportunity with responsibility for better service delivery for child protection.
Secretary Social welfare Aaliya Shahid addressing said that child is emotionally, physically and economically vulnerable and pledged to transform SCPA and state of art institution for child protection.
CEO SPARC Saadia Hussain said that it is encouraging sign that Sindh government is taking child issues seriously and took lead in setting up child protection units in 29 districts of province which have started to handle child abuse cases. On the occasion Kashif Bajeer of SPARC and others also spoke.
