LAHORE, Oct 12 (TNS): Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Thursday Oct 12, 1999 coup is the darkest day of political and democratic history of the country.

In his remarks about the coup, the Chief Minister said it was a conspiracy to stunt the growth of Pakistan, adding that the nation is still bearing the brunt of the fallout of the military government, which inflicted immense losses on both the country and people.

Shahbaz said had it not been for the coup, the situation in Pakistan would have been different altogether. He resolved that no such step against democracy and constitution would be allowed to succeed in future.

The Chief Minister reiterated that continuation of democracy is the only way out for the challenges the country is facing.

He said that politics for personal interests needed to be buried in greater interests of the country.
