PM launches commemorative stamp to pay tributes to Mufti Mahmood; Is it a political move? Was it done to appease Maulana Fazlur Rehman?

ISLAMABAD, Oct 13 (TNS): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi says democracy is vital for progress and prosperity of the country.

He was speaking at the launching ceremony of a commemorative postage stamp in honour of late Maulana Mufti Mahmood in Islamabad on Friday. The stamp has been launched in recognition of his invaluable religious and political services.


A lot of circles are criticizing this ‘favorite’ act of PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as he launched commemorative stamp to pay tributes to Mufti Mahmood, the father of Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Most of them say it is just a political move to appease Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
This view is corroborated by the fact as it has often been reported/broadcast in the media that Maulana Fazal ur Rehman was of the view that the Panama Papers issue had nothing to do with curbing corruption and termed it as a ‘conspiracy aimed at creating political instability’. ‘‘Today Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is being targeted’’,” the JUI-F chief further pointed out adding that this was not ‘accountability’ and that it had some political agenda.

The Prime Minister said there might be shortcomings in the parliamentary democracy but these are taken care of with the passage of time by the parliament itself.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi paid rich tributes to late Maulana Mufti Mahmood and said he always tried to develop consensus on national issues.

The Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Postal Services to issue Commemorative stamps in memory of other important personalities.

Speaking on the occasion, JUI (F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman thanked the Prime Minister and the Postal Services Ministry for recognizing services and role of Maulana Mufti Mahmood in national affairs.

The function was attended by Depty Chairman Senate, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, Federal Minister Mr. Akram Durrani, Maulana Ameer Zaman and senior officers of Pakistan Post.
