Iran, Pakistan agree to open more border points for bilateral trade

Quetta, Oct 13 (TNS): Iran and Pakistan on Friday agreed to open more crossing points on border to promote trade on border regions.

This consensus was reached during a meeting between Iran’s Consul General in south western city of Quetta Mohammad Rafiee and Chief Secretary of Balochistan Aurangzeb Haq.

The purpose of the meeting was to make the 21st session of joint border commission more effective and successful. The new round of the border commission of both the countries is being held in Gwadar from October 13 to 15.

According to the details, the Iranian Consul General and Chief Secretary of Balochistan stressed on making border markets more active. Both sides also agreed on the opening of new border entry points at Gabd-Reemdan and Mand-Pishin.

They agreed to implement decisions taken in the previous border commission meetings.

During the 21st joint border commission meeting, Iran and Pakistan will make important decisions on the promotion of bilateral trade, cooperation between Chabahar and Gwadar ports and controlling drug and fuel trafficking.

Pakistan’s Gwadar is holding the session of joint border commission for the first time. The previous session of the commission was held in Chabahar, Iran.
