KARACHI Oct 17 (TNS): A girl was injured in the latest stabbing incident two days after police claimed to have arrested the prime suspect behind the serial knife attacks in Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.

On Sunday, police had claimed that they have arrested a suspect Muhammad Waseem allegedly involved in stabbing over a dozen women in the metropolis. The arrest was made in Mandi Bahuddin in Punjab province by a special team of the Karachi police led by District Korangi SSP Captain (retd) Haider Raza.

In the latest incident, a girl, identified as 15-year old Areej, was injured in the city’s Dastagir area, according to police.

The area police said they have recorded the statement of the victim girl’s brother. This incident is different from the previous knife attacks, they said, adding that the picture of the incident would clear after recording the girl’s statement.

Following his arrest, Waseem was shifted to an undisclosed location for an interrogation, but the police are yet to bring the suspect to Karachi after fulfilling legal formalities.

However, the mystery still surrounds the motive behind the knife assaults on women, besides the number of attackers involved in attacks.

Last week, police had claimed to have arrested an accomplice of the knife attacker. The alleged attacker, Mohammad Shehzad, was arrested after a knife was recovered from his possession.

As many as 15 women were stabbed by the knife-wielding suspect in various neighbourhoods of Gulshan Town in span of 10 days.

The stabbing spree began on September 25 and the last incident was reported on Oct 5.
