Pakistan, China to enhance cooperative partnership at parliamentary level

BEIJING, Oct. 20 (TNS): Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani and Zhang Ping, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress at their meeting held at St. Petersburg decided to enhance their cooperative partnership at the parliamentary level.

According to the Chinese media reports on Friday, the two sides discussed wide-ranging topics of bilateral interest.

Referring to their existing deep-rooted friendship at people-to-people level, they said the elected representatives of the two countries could work together to improve the living conditions of their people by translating the President Xi’s dream of shared destiny.

It was noted that there was great scope of further improving their socio-economic partnership through China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and the Belt and Road Initiative.

Zhang Ping said China is ready to work with other countries to develop “open and inclusive” civilization.

He called for replacing prejudice, confrontation and conflict with inclusiveness, dialogue and cooperation, and also urged other countries to respect cultural pluralism.

On the sidelines of the assembly, Zhang also met with parliamentary leaders from Belarus, Russia, Vietnam and Brazil respectively and exchanged views with them on improving bilateral ties and legislature cooperation.

The 137th IPU assembly was held under the theme “promoting cultural pluralism and peace through inter-faith and inter-ethnic dialogue.”
