ISLAMABAD Oct 24 (TNS): Seventy students, who were rounded up for trying to disrupt educational activities at the Quaid-e-Azam University in protest over hike in tuition fees, have been released.
According to the details, police set free 70 students who were picked up a day earlier after clashes with the personnel.
The clashes had erupted at the campus when a number of students tried to stop university buses from leaving the campus to bring students as the management announced to restore academic activities after more than two weeks’ gap.
Students associated with different councils had been on strike since Oct 4 against the university administration over increase in fees.
The university had suspended its regular classes after students went on protest over a hike in tuition fees earlier this month.
On Thursday, the university administration and protesting students held successful negotiations, according to the varsity administration. However, both the parties could not reach a decision over students who were taken into police custody during clashes earlier.
Following the recent clashes, the university syndicate had formed a three-member committee to review the sentences awarded to students arrested in police crackdown earlier this month.
