Pakistan expresses condolences over loss lives in Iran, Iraq earthquake

Islamabad, Nov. 13 (TNS): Pakistan has extended deepest condolences and sympathies over the loss of precious human lives in the devastating earthquake in Iran and Iraq.

At least 332 people were killed in Iran and Iraq when a magnitude 7.3 earthquake jolted the region on Sunday, state media in the two countries said, as rescuers searched for dozens trapped under rubble in the mountainous area.

Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif in a message expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in the tragic calamity and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the earthquake in Iran and Iraq.

According to reports, more than 336 people were killed in Iran and at least 3,950 were injured. Local officials said the death toll would rise as search and rescue teams reached remote areas of Iran.

The earthquake was felt in several western provinces of Iran but the hardest hit province was Kermanshah, which announced three days of mourning. More than 236 of the victims were in Sarpol-e Zahab county in Kermanshah province, about 15 km from the Iraq border.
