LAHORE Nov 20 (TNS): Clamour for resignation of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar seems to be growing louder as Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Monday submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly secretariat demanding his resignation in the wake of his ill health and indictment in a graft case.

PTI lawmaker Dr Murad Raas submitted the resolution in the assembly, demanding that the finance minister should step down immediately.

It states it is uncalled for a minister to stay in office in the wake of his/her indictment by an accountability court. The finance ministry was being run without a minister as the incumbent minister is abroad undergoing treatment for heart complications, it adds.

The country’s economic conditions are in shambles at the moment, which cannot afford to have a minister preoccupied with his personal matters and health issues. It calls for the appointment of a competent person without much ado.

Earlier, speaking to the media, leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah demanded that Dar should resign in the greater interest of the country.

On Sunday, PTI chief Imran Khan dubbed Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi a puppet of Nawaz Sharif and said the ruling party was not removing Finance Minister Ishaq Dar because it was afraid that he might make another confession about corruption committed by the Sharifs.

Referring to Hudaibiya Papers Mill case, Khan said the Sharif family was afraid of the Finance Minister’s making another confession with regard to money laundering committed by it.

He said it was shocking that incumbent Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi could not remove Dar despite multiple charges of corruption against him and having been declared as absconder by a court.
