Elimination of corruption is top priority of NAB: reiterates chairman

Islamabad, Dec. 8 (TNS): Chairman NAB Justice retired Javed Iqbal on Friday reiterated that elimination of corruption from the country is top priority of the Bureau.

Addressing the seminar at the Presidency, Chairman NAB said rule of law, transparency, freedom of expression, division of powers, and independent judiciary are the prerequisite for elimination of corruption.

He said corruption was a curse eating the country away. He said NAB will play its role in preventing the wastage of national resources terming it as Jehad.

He said that NAB, as an institution has played a central role in galvanizing anti-corruption efforts all over the country, it has become a focal point for people frustrated without public sector institutions.

“We have developed and introduced on line complaint registration system along with dedicated telephone lines for assistance of general public and complainants, we listen very carefully to what all our citizens are saying,” he said.

Earlier, President Mamnoon Hussain said that corruption can be eliminated through ensuring rule of law.

Addressing a seminar on anti-corruption in Islamabad on Friday afternoon, he said violation of law always lead to corruption.

The President expressed satisfaction on declining of corruption’s graph in recent years, which has also been recognized by the international agencies.

He said good governance, transparency, and accountability has nurtured in Pakistan, while economy of the country has greatly improved.

He urged NAB to play its due role in elimination of corruption from the country.
