ECO important platform for enhancing mutual ties

ISLAMABAD Dec 14 (TNS): Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Sartaj Aziz has said the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is an important platform for enhancing mutual relations amongst the member states.

He was addressing the ministerial segment of 28th meeting of Regional Planning Council of the ECO in Islamabad on Thursday.

He said in the ECO Summit, regional peace and development were mainly focused which are the vital factors in the modern era.

He said there is need for promotion of modern technology, cyber-linkages along with rails, roads and sea-ports to promote mutual trade.

Sartaj Aziz said with effective usage of technology, the trade amongst member states of ECO will be doubled in coming two to three years.

The Deputy Chairman said it is collective responsibility of the member states to achieve all the set targets which are part of the basic framework of the organization.

Highlighting importance of the ECO, the Deputy Chairman said the organization has potential of becoming hub of economic activities linking Europe to Central Asia to South Asia.

Secretary General ECO Haleel Ibrahim said in the 13th ECO Summit, which was held early this year in Islamabad, new dimensions and different programs were introduced by the organization under its vision 2025.
