KARACHI Dec 15 (TNS): PTI chairman Imran Khan expressed disappointment at disqualification of key party leader Jahangir Tareen, but at the same time said he respects the court verdict underlining that PTI will file review appeal.
Talking to media here, he said Tareen was disqualified for technical reasons, adding that the party would file review appeal on the Supreme Court verdict.
He expressed complete confidence in Tareen and said his properties are registered on his children’s name.
He burst out that no comparison should be held between Jahangir Tareen and those convicted in the Panama Papers corruption case. It is itself a crime to to make such comparisons, he said.
Khan also took exception to GEO group for allegedly running campaign to malign him and his party.
The Supreme Court in its verdict rejected plea to disqualify Imran Khan and declared PTI’s key party leader Jahangir Tareen disqualified on the petitions filed by PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi.
Abbasi had filed the petition seeking disqualification of PTI chief and party’s secretary general Tareen for not disclosing their assets and ownership of the offshore companies.
The apex court has sent the foreign funding case to the Election Commission of Pakistan to look into it, observing that it was the commission’s duty to probe such a matter.
The bench rejected all allegations leveled against the PTI chief, saying neither he was a shareholder nor director of an offshore company Niazi Services Limited.
