LAHORE Dec 15 (TNS): The Punjab government once again has proved its mettle after continuing its superb growth rate in the education sector. ‘Alif Ailaan,’ a nonprofit organization working in the field of education in Pakistan since 2013, in its 2017 District education rankings have declared Punjab leading the way in two of its critical range of indicators.

“The 2017 rankings show that while certain parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab have made marked improvements in school infrastructure, the pace of progress in Sindh, Balochistan and Fata remains a concern,” the report noted.

The report encompassed all 148 districts and agencies across the AJK, Balochistan, the FATA, the G-B, the K-P, the Punjab and Sindh. The document employed two indices; an educational outcome-based ranking that measured district performance regarding access, retention, learning and gender parity while the second recorded performance on the basis of basic school infrastructure availability.

Alif Ailaan’s Pakistan District Education Rankings 2017 compared statistics including enrolment, literacy, learning outcomes, gender ratios and survival rate data from the Pakistan Social and Living Standards Measurement Survey, the National Education Management Information System, and the Annual Status of Education Report.

According to the rankings, Faisalabad is Punjab’s best performing district for the year. Much improvement has been witnessed in school infrastructure. First, out of the provinces, Punjab leads in Education Scores, at 70.01, with KP coming in second at 57.69. This shows that Punjab has made significant progress in ensuring that children learn well.

Secondly, Punjab also leads the other provinces in that its system is relatively more prepared to provide education to primary and secondary age children as committed in the SDG 4 (Ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning).

With eight districts from the Punjab securing places in the top ten, the Punjab continued to dominate the ranking, according to the report. Furthermore, the top three spots were taken by Lahore, Rawalpindi and Chakwal, all districts of the Punjab. The document said that only two districts of the province had been ranked below the top 100.

According to the report, only three Punjab districts scored higher than 70, representative of the poor quality of education being imparted. The document said nine Punjab districts had scored over 80 on the education score.

This does not end here as a total of 12 districts have scored 100 percent on electricity availability, and include 11 from the Punjab. Then, 33 out of 36 districts in the Punjab score 100 percent for water availability in middle schools, and also in middle school infrastructure, Punjab leads at 92.66 with eight out of top 10 districts and just two from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

It is worth noting that while other scores are based on self-reported data by the provinces, the Education Score is calculated through independent, third-party data collected by ASER (Annual Status of Education Report).

Well, after all these credible and significant information, the tweets from Imran Khan automatically looks out of context. The Punjab government has over the years endured that these patterns continue to remain the same which is why Alif Ailaan has also recognized these efforts, especially in their education scores.
