Security Forces foil terror attack on Governor Balochistan

QUETTA, Dec 20 (TNS):A terror attack targetting Balochistan governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai was foiled by security forces, provincial home minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti told media on Wednesday.

Addressing a joint press conference with DIG Abdul Razzaq Cheema here earlier, the minister said security forces foiled a terrorist attack in Qilla Abdulla and arrested two terrorists from Gulistan area.

The terrorists, namely Hamid Bashir and Munawar, intended to carry out an attack on Balochistan governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai, he said.

The forces recovered suicide jackets and weapons from the terrorists’ possession during the operation. Bugti said the provincial government is working on providing foolproof security to officers.

Speaking to media, DIG Abdul Razzaq Cheema said church representatives in the province have been assured of security, in a meeting held a day ago.

Security forces foiled terror bid here yesterday too by recovering 18-kilogram bomb from Kalli tarkha area here. The bomb planted by a roadside was recovered by the security forces, who immediately summoned the Bomb Disposal Squad which defused the bomb.

Police and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel cordoned off the area and called Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), which defused the explosive device weighing 15 kilogrammes. Security forces have launched a probe into the incident. Yesterday, a bomb installed near a track on Sariab road was timely defused by BDS.

Authorities said that had the bomb exploded it would had caused massive loss of life and property.      It may be mentioned here that security forces had also foiled a terror bid by defusing a bomb planted near rail track on December 18. DG Civil Defense Aslam Tareen said that the bomb weighed around 10-12 kilograms could had cause much destruction had it gone off.
