Govt working on addressing issues pertaining to petroleum products: PM tells Senate

Islamabad, Dec. 20 (TNS): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi says all provisions regarding exploration, distribution and transportation of natural gas under the 18th Amendment have been fully implemented.

He was giving a statement in the Senate regarding distribution of gas among provinces.

The Prime Minister said after 18th amendment, we have inducted provincial representation at the Ministry of Petroleum.

He said we have independent regulator in Pakistan with provincial representation. He said the government is working on addressing issues pertaining to the petroleum products at the Council of Common Interests level.

Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani expressed his annoyance over diverging details of the in-camera proceedings held yesterday by some members of the Senate.

He observed that revealing in-camera proceedings of the Senate is a breach of sanctity of the House.

Mian Raza Rabbani referred the matter to the House Business Advisory committee to look into the matter and evolve a code of conduct for future in-camera briefings.

He said it is responsibility of the parliamentarians to observe secrecy of in-camera briefing as no institution will come to brief the House in future if this tendency continues.

The Senate today passed two bills.

The first bill “The Pakistan Tobacco Board (Amendment) Bill, 2017” provides to amend the Pakistan Tobacco Board Ordinance, 1968.

The second bill “The Apprenticeship Bill, 2017” provides for promoting, developing and regulating systematic apprenticeship programmes in the establishments for securing certain minimum standards of skill.

Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abdul Qadir Baloch says the government is committed to implement recommendations of the FATA Reforms Committee.

He was responding to a Calling Attention Notice moved by Syed Shibli Faraz regarding delay in legislation for merger of FATA with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in Senate today.

The Minister said FATA Reforms Committee gave twenty-five recommendations and directions have been issued for the implementation of twenty-four of them while only one recommendation regarding extension of jurisdiction of superior judiciary was the matter of concern.

He expressed the hope that this issue will also be sorted out soon; and hopefully, the bill will likely be tabled in National Assembly tomorrow.

The Session of the Senate has been prorogued.
