LAHORE Dec 21 (TNS): Expressing displeasure over transfer of Multan Judicial Complex, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday ordered for restoring old courts at Multan’s Kutchery Chowk.
The CJP was hearing a suo moto case on the transfer of judicial complex in Multan.
He directed the authorities concerned to ensure reopening of old courts at Kutchery Chowk within 10 days.
Disapproving Lahore High Court (LHC) registrar Syed Khursheed Anwar Rizvi’s decision, the CJP said the decision was taken without ensuring the provision of basic facilities.
He questioned the reason behind rushed decision with inadequate facilities at the complex. “There are no proper barrooms for the lawyers. Where will the lawyers make their clients sit,” the CJP asked.
He resented over lack of security measures at the new judicial complex, adding, there were no facilities to protect lawyers from harsh weather conditions.
Justice Saqib also noted that the registrar and sessions judge prepared a false report about facilities at the judicial complex, as he said; there was no 11KV transmission line.
Moreover, he urged authorities concerned to complete the new judicial complex within three months.
Earlier on Dec 13, dozens of lawyers went on rampage, vandalizing a newly-constructed Judicial Complex in Multan in protest against lack of basic facilities in courts.
A large number of lawyers gathered outside the old judicial complex, from where they marched towards the newly constructed one on Matital Road.
As they reached there, some of the protesting lawyers broke windowpanes, doors of the building and damaged furniture.
Subsequently, a strong contingent of the police personnel was called in to control the situation and prevent any untoward incident.
Condemning the incident, Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) secretary general Amir Saeed said lawyers and litigants faced immense hardships owing to dearth of basic facilities in courts.
He said there were not even benches for lawyers, litigants and visitors to sit and demanded of the administration to ensure provision of such facilities in courts.
