NEW DELHI Dec 26 (TNS): RAW agent Kulbhushan Jadhav’s wife and mother met Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi on Tuesday, a day after they met the convicted Indian spy in Islamabad.

Times of India reported that the meeting took place at Swaraj’s residence in New Delhi, after which the family members left for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), where they are expected to participate in a debriefing.

According to The Indian Express, the details of the meeting remain unknown, but reports suggest that Swaraj assured Avanti and Chetankul that New Delhi is doing everything possible to secure the spy’s release.

The two women were accompanied by Indian Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar, MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar and Indian Deputy High Commissioner in Pakistan J.P. Singh who also travelled with the two ladies back to New Delhi.

In the meeting between the Indian spy and his family members on Monday, Jadhav spoke to his wife and mother via an intercom as well as across the glass screen that separated them while Foreign Office officials and Indian High Commissioner JP Singh monitored the encounter through another glass screen.

The meeting was granted by Pakistan on “humanitarian grounds” as a gesture of goodwill on Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s birthday. It did not constitute as consular access to the spy.
