AIOU holds poster competition on environmental sciences

ISLAMABAD Dec 26 (TNS):  A national-level poster competition held at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) to highlight the emerging issues relating to environmental sciences.

The competition on the topic “Recent trends in Environmental Sciences: Current Scenario, Challenges and Advances” attracted a large number of students and researchers. The event was the part of the ongoing socio-economic activities, undertaken by the University on the initiative of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui.

It was arranged by the Department of Biology and Environmental Science. There were 17 groups consisting of two students, participated in the competition. Participants exhibited posters and gave presentations based on research related to latest information on global and national environmental topics including Environmental art, zoo management, alternate energy resources and solid waste management.

The competition provided an opportunity to underline the responsibility of  the public-private sector regarding environment projection. Dean Faculty of Sciences, Prof. Dr. ZafarIlyas and Incharge Department, Dr. Hina Fatima appreciated efforts of the students and event coordinators Zaibun Nisa and Sadia Latif for organizing the competition.

First prize was given to BS Microbiology students M. Tariq Saleem and M. Ali Mir on presenting management challenges to the zoos in twin cities, Atiqa Durrani and Sadia Abbas received second prize on highlighting use of street art, miniature and sculpture in sensitizing society about climate change impacts and 3rd prize was given to BS Environmental Science students Ayesha Zafar and Sara Hassan on presenting solutions to solid waste pollution in AIOU’s departments.
