Trumps allegations: China throws its weight behind Pakistan

Beijing, Jan. 2 (TNS): A day after US president lashed out at Pakistan blaming it for providing safe heavens to terrorists, China on Tuesday emphatically defended Islamabad’s record of combating terrorism, stressing that the international community should fully recognise Pakistan’s role.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang, during a regular briefing in Beijing today defending Pakistan’s contributions in counter-terrorism said we have said many times that Pakistan has put forth great effort and made great sacrifices in combating terrorism.

Chinese spokesperson said Pakistan has made a prominent contribution to global anti-terror efforts and international community should fully recognise this.

He said China and Pakistan maintain an all-weather strategic partnership. The Chinese spokesperson said Beijing is willing to further deepen its cooperation with Pakistan in all fields and further benefit the two peoples.

On the other hand, Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing says Beijing acknowledges Pakistan’s matchless sacrifices in the war against terror and stands firmly with Islamabad in all situations.

These views were expressed by China’s newly appointed Ambassador during a meeting with National Security Adviser Nasser Khan Janjua in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The Chinese Ambassador reiterated China’s strong commitment to the security and stability of Pakistan.

Besides other issues, President Trump’s latest tweet on Pakistan also came under discussion.

The two sides stressed the need for political reconciliation in Afghanistan and an early closure of the Afghan conflict.
