ISLAMABAD, Jan 3 (TNS):Afghan Health Professionals (AHP), who underwent a twelve month training and capacity building programme at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) have been awarded with the honraray certifcates on Tuesday.
Special Secretary Foreign Affairs Mr. Aitzaz Ahmed was Chief Guest at the certificate awarding ceremony of the while the event was also attended by the Counsellor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Sayed Abdul Nassir Yusufi, said a statement issued by foreign office here.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr. Javed Akram, Vice Chancellor of PIMS Islamabad, briefed the guests on various aspects of Pakistan funded ‘Afghan Health Professionals Training Project’ and expressed willingness for continuing the program in future as well.
The Counsellor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan appreciated Pakistan’s assistance for development and reconstruction of Afghanistan and hoped that cooperation between the two countries would continue not only in Health sector but also other fields of mutual interest.
Addressing at the ceremony, the Special Secretary said that Pakistan has extended training and capacity building courses to Afghan doctors, nurses and paramedics to efficiently run the three hospitals built by Pakistan in Kabul, Jalalabad and Nangarhar, Afghanistan. In total 69 Health professionals, were invited for training courses of various durations. 59 have already completed their training and since assumed their responsibilities in the above mentioned hospitals in Afghanistan. 10 AHPs completed their yearlong training and received certificates from the Special Secretary Foreign Affairs at a ceremony held at PIMS.
He added that the government of Pakistan has committed US $1 billion as development assistance to Afghanistan and undertook multiple projects in the fields of education, health, and infrastructure, provision of scholarships, training and capacity building of Afghan professionals.
In addition to hosting millions of our Afghan brethren for almost four decades, Pakistan is committed to constructively contribute in the institution building and development of Afghanistan.
