ISLAMABAD Jan 05 (TNS): The meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Commerce and Textile was held in the chairmanship of Mr. Siraj Muhammad Khan at National Textile University Karachi.
The Standing Committee urged Prime Minister in its recommendation to review the decision regarding closure of Pakistan Textile City at Karachi and also merge the Garment City into it.
The Chairman Mr. Siraj Muhammad Khan said in the meeting that Pakistan Textile City project is the National project and it will create 85 thousand jobs. Federal government should review its decision to close the project. Provision of gas, salaries of employees and other issues should be resolved on priority basis.
The Committee also decided to arrange a meeting with Chief Minister of Sindh to solve the matters pertaining to the provincial government. The CEO of Pakistan Textile City said in his briefing that this project is spread on 1250 acres of land and an amount of 3 billion rupees has already been spent on it. “Due to non-availability of gas 70 % work on the project has already been closed” he added.
The officials of Textile Commissioner’s Organization and Pakistan Tobacco Company Ltd. also briefed the Committee about their achievements and challenges.
The Members of the Committee which attended the meeting include Mrs. Seema Mohiuddin Jameeli, Makhdoom Syed Ali Hassan Gillani, Dr. Mehreen Razaque Bhutto, Ms. Shazia Mari, Ms. Mussarat Ahmed Zeb, Ms. Sajida Begum, Mr. Sanjay Perwani, State Minister for Commerce & Textile Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari, beside Secretary Committee Mr. Mehboob Ali Gurmani and others.
